Expression of solidarity and support for Father Alberto Cutiй sign now

Dear friends,

The outcry of support for Father Alberto Cutie and our blog from around the world has truly been overwhelming. As of the time of this blog post, over 500 people have signed our petition and thousands have visited or written to the authors of this blog. This enthusiasm is certainly comforting, but I think its important that we channel our energy in a positive direction and that it be based on facts.

Despite a report from The Miami Herald indicating that Father Cutie had been punished, the Archdiocese of Miami clarified yesterday that it had not suspended him, but rather that he had took a voluntary leave from the Church to reflect on this difficult situation and spend time with his family. Accordingly, we are modifying the aim of the petition to serve as an act of solidarity with Father Cutie and let him know that his dynamic leadership is sorely needed in the Catholic Church and our community.

As a person with a deep and abiding faith in Christ, and that in so many ways was inspired by the Marist Brothers and priests at my Catholic high school, I would like nothing more than for the Church to continue to serve as a beacon of hope and source of good all around the world. This is also an historic opportunity for the leadership of the Church to have an open and constructive conversation with its faithful followers regarding its policy of celibacy for priests. The sole purpose of this is to strengthen the faith of millions and introduce the uplifting words of the Lord, which have changed so many lives, to even greater audiences.

Now I ask that you join me in keeping Father Alberto Cutie in your prayers and that you sign the petition so he can promptly return to his duties.

Thank you so much,

Giancarlo Sopo and the GenerationMiami staff
