Equal Access for Students at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business sign now

Dear Dean Edward A. Snyder,

It is well known that without extensive networking and access to corporate events and most importantly an internship in the designated career field, obtaining most MBA careers is tremendously difficult and in some industries is downright impossible. Furthermore, access to corporate and networking resources is a significant part of a comprehensive business education and crucial to future success in professional life. Nevertheless, part-time students at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business are denied access to almost all of schools corporate and networking events and internship opportunities (e.g. over 220 corporate events in the autumn quarter of 2009-2010 alone and the same order of magnitude of interviews in the second quarter of 2009-2010). This denial of opportunity and access is to the point that even if a part-time student has received invitation to attend an event or an interview by the firm that is hosting an event, the school still blocks the student from attending the event or interview only on the basis of being in the part-time program.

We believe part-time students are not being allowed to compete for opportunities and to grow their business network while they pay an even higher tuition than the full-time students do for the same education. Therefore, we view the schools policies towards part-time students as unfair, unethical, and against the free competition and free market principles that not only are taught at the school but also are ironically pioneered and advocated by the Chicago School of Economics Thought.

We, the undersigned are writing this petition to request your attention to this grave concern of the part-time student and alumni community at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and to request equality in access to schools corporate events, internship interviews, and career resources.
