Enemy Combatant Military Commissions Act sign now

As concerned citizens of the United States, we are troubled by the introduction of the draft of Enemy Combatant Military Commissions Act of 2006.
If passed, this bill will have troubling implications for citizens and non-citizens alike, including the indefinite detention of those labeled with the vague term enemy combatant. This would include not only those engaged in fighting against the U.S., but also citizens with unsubstantiated ties to terror groups. These enemy combatants would lose many of the rights that we in the United States have been guaranteed, including access to civilian courts, the guarantee of a speedy trial, protection from admission of hearsay evidence, and the right to attend their own trial. The bill might also allow for the inclusion of coerced testimony.
We are particularly worried that this is the administrations response to the Supreme Courts June 29th ruling that military tribunals are a violation of the Geneva Convention, and may have the effect of further isolating us from the international community.
We demand that lawmakers take into consideration the rights of their constituents and oppose this bill when it comes before the Senate.
Thank you for your careful consideration of this urgent matter.
