Attention : Office of the EMS of Virginia Beach

It has been brought to the attention of the Public that there is a necessity for better oceanfront emergency medical coverage. Due to the nature of a busy tourist season, the Virginia beach oceanfront endures a very high volume of spring and summertime traffic. This would include vehicles [cars, vans, trucks and SUVs], Public Transportation Vehicles [Buses, HRT Trolleys, and Public Safety Vehicles], Bike Rentals and also pedestrians who are walking from place to place. This does not include the beach goers, and water sports people that are also at the beach during this time. Because of this type of high level traffic, we feel that there is a greater need for secondary emergency medical professionals. We believe that it is necessary to help avoid and also support the level of potential hazards that can happen at any given time.

Our suggested solution to this potential issue, is to have an Emergency Bike Rescue Team. These will be individuals who will be trained E.M.T.S that will be the first response to accidents happening at or within blocks of the Oceanfront. We feel this first response team could be the layer of protection needed to prevent small potential hazards from becoming unmanageable. Its has been pointed out by local EMT, Brad Lovell that As a member of an EMT bicycle team, I can easily make it from 60th street to 1st street in a matter of minutes, where as an ambulance may take 15 to 20 minutes on a busy night, and if fire or rescue is held up, then nobody will be at the scene of an accident for 15-20 minutes, which could be a life threatening situation.

For these reasons, we believe that it is more than necessary to consider a first response, EMT Bike Team for the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach. If you have any other questions in relation to our request, we would be happy to discuss this further at your convenience.
