Emory University and Yerkes National Primate Research Center Primate Freedom sign now

We the people call for the immediate and unconditional release of ALL primate species being held at Emory University and Yerkes National Primate Research Center regardless of species, location, or ownership. The word all is used to describe every individual primate as each single one constitutes an individual being and because the exact numbers being held by said entities are unknown to anyone except possibly said entities themselves. According to Emory University and Yerkes NPRC public information, said captive primates comprise a sum of not less than 3,400.
Over the years Emory / Yerkes NPRC has been cited by the United States Department of Agriculture numerous times, citations range in every area from inadequate sanitation, housing, food, and water, to causing the deaths of primates. It has become clear to the people that your instatutions lack the ability or knowledge to properly care for these species and if you do posses such knowledge but choose not to make improvements for these primates then it is disgracefully clear that these primates are being held largely in part as a means of generating revenue for said entities with little if any concern for the well being of the primates.
For decades you have tortured, mutilated, victimized, terrorized, and imprisoned species who's individualism and family structures are as unique and complex as that of humans while funding said atrocities with our tax money and without our consent. Animal model experiments have by their own nature proven themselves to be inaccurate, unreliable, unethical, unproductive, repetitive, redundant, wasteful in time, money, and lives of both humans and nonhuman primates, inhumane, and cruelty at its worst. Through out medical history there have been many cases in which animal model experiments have delayed treatments and/or cures by years. Through funding by the National Institutes of Health many experiments continue for decades paid for by our tax dollars and said experiments have produced no human related or applied results. Many of your own colleagues and those in related fields are now speaking out in opposition against said animal tests and experiments for these same reasons.
In 2006 the National Institutes of Health's fiscal budget was $28.6 billion. The NIH contributes and funds a large portion of Emory / Yerkes experiments supposedly on our behalf with our money. These funds (our money) can be used by said institutions at their discretion, i.e., experiments, primate enrichment, staff salaries, facility enlargements, or paying the janitorial staff. Sense Emory / Yerkes has received numerous USDA citations related to the care of the primates, we the people find ourselves asking, "Just where is all our money going?" According to Emory's website, in Georgia they receive more research funding then any other university. In 2004 they received in excess of $350 million, health sciences comprised $320 million of said funds. The site also states that over the last seven (7) consecutive years Emory has added an excess of over 3.2 million square feet of space.
Therefore, we demand that the National Institutes of Health cease and desist funding any and all primate experiments at Emory University and Yerkes National Primate Research Center with our money, furthermore, (sense this is our money) we suggest that you redirect and invest said funds in some of these areas: clinical studies, non animal model alternatives, a true primate sanctuary with no recall clause, or help for low and middle income families to pay existing medical debts or obtaining affordable quality healthcare coverage. The areas where this money can be productive and truly needed is limitless.
If there's one lesson human history has taught us, it is that education is not always indicative of intelligence, therefor, we the below signed wish to make ourselves clear so there are no misunderstandings.
ALL primates held at Emory University and Yerkes National Primate Research Center are to be released and given to accredited rescues and sanctuaries, furthermore, Emory University, Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and the National Institutes of Health will relinquish all ties, bonds, ownership's, claims, and holds on said primates regardless of situation, or status. Said primates are NEVER to be called upon or used in research experiments for the duration of their natural lives regardless of intent, situaction, or circumstance.
We the people of America and the World no longer support or condone the practice of using nonhuman primates or other animals for research experiments.
