Eliminate the 5-day Work Week in the United States sign now

Dear US Government/Employers of America,

The time has come to officially, and legally, end the 5-day work week.

The 5-day week has become archaic in form, and cruel in todays world. Along with the benefits of technological and social advances, come the inevitable stresses as well.

Much as we have in the past with the abolition of the 16-hour mandatory work day, , so must go this practice of 5 working days per week to make way for the new 4-day work week.

Our understanding of the intricacies of business includes a need for productivity and worker satisfaction. Very few workers would not be satisfied with an extra day on the weekend.

Now, it is understood that slackers and shiftless lay-abouts throughout history have suggested this very same thing. However, this is not a call to laziness, nor a rallying cry to perform less work. No, this is quite the opposite.

A 4-day workweek enables the employee to increase productivity for a bevy of reasons, not the least of which is the need to manage ones time more effectively with 1 less day per week.

The countless hours of randomly browsing the internet or spacing out would become a thing of the past, as important projects would now require more immediate attention. This is coupled with the fact that the extra day off increases the energy level of the employee, along with the obvious health benefits enjoyed from an extra day of rest.

On a wider scale, the 4-day week would remove 52 days per year of rush hour traffic congestion, thus increasing air quality. The energy benefits gained from office buildings being closed 52 extra days per year would be astronomical from a conservation standpoint.

On the plus side for employers, happier employees and more productive employees. Overtime pay would not be as necessary, health benefits become less costly with healthier emnployees, and overhead costs drop dramatically.

Now, in a perfect world, nobody would ever need to work on Friday, however, this is not a perfect world. Still, the existence of the internet, laptop computers and home offices enable very similar benefits for those who still have some work to do on Friday.

This is truly a win-win for companies and employees, as well as the future of our society.

Life was meant for living; Lets make some time for it.
