Drop the Charges Against Shaun Kranish in Illinois sign now

Mr. Joe Bruscato,

Shaun Kranish, founder and executive director of the firearms rights organization ICarry.org, was wrongfully arrested in 2006 for lawfully carrying a firearm in Illinois as allowed by 720 ILCS 5/24 1.6 (c)(iii.) which states that Unlawful Use of Weapons does not apply to firearms that "are unloaded and enclosed in a CASE, firearm carrying box, shipping box, OR OTHER CONTAINER by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card"

This politically-motivated prosecution began before you were in office. Since then, Shaun has been required in court countless times and has incurred grave legal fees. This case and all charges against Shaun were dismissed WITH PREJUDICE so that the state could not bring them back by the honorable Judge Steven Vecchio. Judge Vecchio knew Shaun was not a criminal and that Shaun was following the law. But the former state's attorney has gone after Shaun on appeal.

While you ran for office as the new state's attorney, you stated you would not have pursued the case against Shaun. Please hold true to those words now and true to justice. Illinois, the second most bankrupt state in the union, should be using its resources to go after criminals - not law-abiding, background-checked, firearms owners with valid FOID cards.

We, the undersigned, fully support Shaun Kranish, founder and executive director of ICarry.org and the legal practice of container carry in Illinois. Most state's attorneys in Illinois will not prosecute FOID card holders for carrying unloaded firearms in containers. Likewise, a growing number of law enforcement is becoming familiar with and respecting this - currently the only form of right to carry we can practice while following the law.

You have purported to be a supporter of law-abiding, background-checked, trained citizens to carry in Illinois. Shaun Kranish has been background-checked - he has a valid FOID card. He also has more than double the formal training of the average police officer. He's an avid shooter. If you really support right to carry in Illinois you will drop all charges against Shaun.

Shaun is a family man, and he and his wife have their first child on the way, a business owner who brings money into Winnebago County and pays taxes, and a valuable member of the community. No one has accused Shaun of a crime, other than an administrative, victimless "offense". There is clearly no criminal intent. Shaun Kranish never threatened, scared, or harmed anyone in any way.

As a gun owner, you have my support if you stand by your words of supporting right to carry, going after bad guys, and working together with law-abiding gun owners like myself. Please do the right thing for Shaun, his family, the community, Illinois and the country as a whole by dropping the charges against Shaun.
