Dove's Commercial in the Middle East is Unacceptable sign now

To Whom it May Concern at Dove,

I am writing to you as a deeply concerned customer. I have
been using Dove soap and products for my entire life- we
never used any other soap growing up. When I heard about
Dove's "Campaign for Real Beauty" and "The Dove Self-Esteem
Fund" while I was home in California I was very pleased
with the concept. I was happy to see girls and women
encouraged to be themselves and to be more confident about
and satisfied with who they are and how they look. As a
teacher I constantly come across girls who are lacking in
self-esteem and who suffer from negative body images.
Imagine my utter dismay and disgust as I watched a Dove
commercial on the Arab satellite channel MBC 1. I am
currently living and working in Cairo, Egypt. In the
commercial three different Arab women with three different
hair types are shown. One of the women is shown eating
chocolate and she says that she loves chocolate. She then
says that the weight gain which comes with eating chocolate
"kills her". What comes next is the most outrageous part,
this young, beautiful woman is then shown weighing her self
on a bathroom scale and the scale reads 49.8 kilograms- A
lightweight by all means. This poor girl then proceeds to
pretend to shoot herself in the head as she is upset with
her weight. How is it that you find this commercial
acceptable to air in the Arab world when you claim to be
campaigning against the pressures women face to fall into
defined notions of beauty? The commercial has so outraged
me, and many of my friends, see below, that I am ceasing all
my purchases of Dove products until the commercial is pulled
from the air and an apology is issued. I eagerly await
your response.
