Don't allow a vote on people's rights sign now

To Whom it may Concern,
I understand that you are about to decided whether or not to place a very controversial question on the 2008 ballot. The question that I am referring to is the one that would allow people to vote on whether or not to ban gay marriage in Massachusetts. The idea of such a ballot question, to be quite frank, sickens me and Im sure I am not the only person who feels this way. People should not be voting on whether or not to strip a specific group of people of any of their rights. Placing this question on the ballot will prove beyond any doubt that homophobia is truly the last expectable prejudice I say that because if someone were to say I want a question on the ballot that would allow people to vote on whether or not to pass a ban on people marrying someone who is of a different race than them that person would instantly be called a racist and that question would never make it onto the ballot. Why then should we allow the people who are prejudice against homosexuals to have a question placed on the ballot just because they believe gay marriage is a sin. Placing this question on the ballot is unconstitutional because it clearly violates the separation of church and state. I say that because the main argument I have heard from people who support this question being on the ballot and also support a ban on gay marriage is that the bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. I believe, as do many others, that the only reason this question has even come up is because of one groups religious beliefs and if you took the religious part out of the equation we would not even be having this debate in America about what is or is not a marriage or who should or should not be allowed to marry. Please do not place the question on the ballot, dont allow people to vote as to whether or not to remove the rights of others.
