Disapproval of the private school lobby's challenge to the RTE Act sign now

To
Hon. Minister of Human Resource Development.

Respected sir,

We learnt that the HRD ministry has been issued a notice by a bench of 11 Supreme Court Judges, after a petition questioning the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act passed by your ministry last year. The petition claims that the Act violated the rights of private educational institutions under Article 19(1)(g) which mandated maximum autonomy to private managements to run their institutions without governmental interference.

Below are the news items which refer to the same.

The petitioner, the Society for Un-aided Private Schools, is clearly miffed at the prospect of private schools having to reserve 25 per cent of their seats for children from poor families. The preposterous petition expresses a discomfort in admitting 'without any choice each and every child whosoever comes to take admission'.

What gives anybody the right to choose which child should be educated? Will the bulge of the parents' pocket make one child more qualified to be educated than another? We being a group that shares your vision of education to every child despises this attitude.

We hope you don't succumb to this petition which is borne solely out of a business interest. This is your opportunity to send the private school lobby a strong message that schooling isn't a commercial activity. The country's future depends on your stance. We are counting on you.

I strongly think that full power should not be given to education lobby to control to decide on how to give admission based on the income bracket as lot of good students come from the poor or lower middle class families.I strongly support this petition.

Education is above social and economic status. Somebody is poor doesn't mean he/she doesn't have the right to study! The petition by the private school lobby does only indicate the backwardness of their mentality. Education is meant for the development of
