Destroy Reid Hall sign now

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that President Garland and the Miami University Board of Trustees immediately act on the proposal to tear down Reid Hall to build the new business school.

While we understand the temptation of waiting until the year is over to tear down the building, we suggest that it be torn down at once with the current residents still inside of it. That will put a stop to all their whining pretty quickly.

We may or may not have supported Miami in its endeavor to be the First in 2009 and have quietly watched the landscape of Miami change over the years, knowing it piss off the current students in order to become one of the nations leading universities. But now youre doing the right thing by tearing down the smallest and shittiest dorm on the campus, something that should have been done years ago. Kudos, you construction-loving a-holes.

The first guiding principle of the First in 2009 plan is to build on the Oxford campus core strengths that contribute to the undergraduate experience. One of these core strengths is a residential experience that is an essential ingredient in the undergraduate education. Please build on the students who currently reside in Reid Hall. Besides, you're constructing new, insanely expensive student housing by the Rec Center, anyway. Tennis courts, basketball courts, and roller hockey courts be damned!

Since 1948, Reid Hall has been the home to thousands of the most whiny Miami students. As a first-year dorm, this was many students first home away from home, and they really didn't like it then, but are really complaining to save it now. It was where we slept through our first test and met our first collegiate drug dealer. We cried, bitched, and moaned here. We lived here. And most of us don't deserve to live anymore, but that's beside the point.

Tearing down Reid Hall will not change our memories; the past is done. But it will change the future for the next set of Miami students. Notably, for the better. Last year, Miami had a record number of applicants, a whole new crop of people who may not have been complainers before arriving to Reid Hall, but certainly were transformed into them during their stay.

The new upperclassman apartment style housing is the answer. It is supposed to entice more students to stay on campus and replace another dorm. Plus, you would be demolishing a first-year residence hall where whiny bitches breed. Part of what makes the residence experience at Miami great and unique is that most of us don't have to put up with all the complaining from Reid Hall, except on those unfortunate occassions where we have classes with people from said hall. Placing an academic building at the entrance to East Quad would make classes closer to a lot of students and get rid of a dorm that wasn't really that close to any other dorm on campus. It was probably the most isolated of any dorm, in fact.

In the end, your First in 2009 principle says it all: build on Miamis strengths. Here's hoping you build on top of your weaknesses, i.e. Reid Hall.

You can build a classroom anywhere, and you can also give us better places to stay than shitty Reid Hall.

For those who lived in Reid Hall, they've already been cultivated into whiners and complainers. For those of us who didnt but who have a similar affinity to our own first-year dorm, we don't give a shit because we lived somewhere much nicer.

Do us all a favor and make classes closer by tearing down that castle-like piece of shit that currently stands there. And, god willing, tear it down tomorrow.
