Cse303 Operating Systems Design: Beowulf Programming Assignment sign now

Dear Professors,

As the closure of the semester nears, the students in your Operating Systems Design class have learned a great wealth of information. Through the extensive well constructed lecture slides, and challenging yet rewarding assignments and programs, the class has learned more than we could imagine on operating systems, as well as strengthened our skills using Unix, C, and C++ programming.

We realize that you are not merely here to point us through the textbook, but to guide us through the learning and application of our acquired operating systems knowledge. Though challenged by the assignments and programs, we were ultimately rewarded by gaining valuable experience. We have enjoyed your enthusiasm teaching the class especially the extras you bring to the class. More is brought into the classroom through the sharing of your own personalities including the sharing of your devices (laptop hard drives, biometric security devices) and not to mention the humorous and clever historical anecdotes.

With regards to obtaining from this class the knowledge and experience of operating systems design, we have unfortunately come to an obstacle. With the final assignment nearing its deadline, the students of the class have been working diligently to obtain solutions to the programming problems. However, as there are problems with the Beowulf system along with the difficulty of the two programs, a majority of the students have agreed that they may not be able to proficiently complete the assignment on time.

We graciously appreciate the proposed extension and your generosity, but feel that this would shift our focus towards the completion of the Beowulf program and away from devoting our time studying for our finals, especially our Operating Systems Design final. With the consent and agreement of the majority of the class, we suggest that the Beowulf assignment be dismissed, and to shift the grading weight towards the decryption assignment.

This proposed solution would allow proficient completion time for the decryption assignment. Most importantly, it will give much needed time to study for our final. In addition, this will remove a great burden of grading from Shenzhi. We realize the increasing stress during the last week of class and surrounding finals time, and have the best interest in mind for all of the students, teaching assistants and faculty members. We appreciate your generosity and hope you view our solution as justifiable.
