Dear Rotary International,

My name is Madeline Feicht, US District 6440, I partook in a Rotary Youth Exchange in 2004-05 to Brazil. I represent my fellow global Rotary Youth Exchange rebounds when I say that after such a mind-opening experience, after so much guidance and care by Rotarians, I feel like my skills I gained during my exchange are not being valued by the global job market, and I have something I want to give back to Rotary. I thought that in doing a Rotary exchange, I would become a future leader of tomorrow. And I would like tomorrow to be today.

I feel that Rotary has enormous amounts of talent that is not being tapped into. The exchange students I met during my exchange are high calibre people: overachievers, extremely motivated, creative, resourceful, driven, and confident. They are very adaptable, taking on a new language, culture, and family and showed immense persistence in sticking out the entire exchange, even when things got tough. I like to think of us as another kind of people entirely, and only those who have done a Rotary exchange know why.

I feel that we have copious amounts of potential to be the future leaders of this globalized world, yet we need help today to get there. Many of us are coming right out of education and need to gain trust in the workplace. Many of us, after youth exchange and a formal higher education, are having trouble finding work. We are in an interim stage after education but before a respectable job, working at unpaid internships, relying on our parents and partners, working at minimum wage temporary jobs with no workers rights, or just scrapping by. Many of us have very prestigious degrees and have been unemployed for months. I myself have a Masters from Oxford, but employers tell me that I do not have enough experience for the job and I am turned down time and time again. Yet there are still jobs out there.

I have an idea that will help both Rotarians and Rotary rebounds. May I propose that we start a website, one that will connect Rotarians who are looking to hire and past Rotary youth exchange students in a global database. Our bond is very strong, and Rotarys reputation is proof of our success and therefore our mutual trust in searching for proper candidates and finding a respectable position has a strong foundation. To demonstrate the amount of highly driven people who have been youth ambassadors of goodwill, I am including a petition of individuals touched by Rotary who feel like their skills are not being used by this market. With Rotary International's guidance, we could help Rotarians who are searching for trust-worthy workers in their businesses and help post-exchange students who are looking for work and looking to give back in their current community. I myself have moved many times after my exchange and have not kept in best contact with the Rotary clubs I was involved in. I would like to remedy this by getting back in touch with these clubs and beginning to network more with my local club now.

Thank you Rotary International for understanding that this job market is very tough and we can do our best to fill the positions that are out there with reliable, hard-working, and motivated candidates, those who have been through an exchange and feel they want to give back.

For post-exchange students: Please sign your name on this to include your interest. Please include your name, your Rotary exchange year and host country, degree/skills you acquired after your exchange, current working situation and where you live, and any other information you would like to share to demonstrate your skills. If you are still studying, please include your expected date of graduation.

We are the future leaders of tomorrow yet want to be the working force of today.
