Cranberry Heights Child Safety sign now

The residents of Cranberry Heights, along with concerned citizens of Cranberry Township have not yet seen satisfactory action taken in regards to vehicles surpassing the speed limit through the neighborhood. This is of particular concern at the intersection of Cranberry Heights Drive and Cottingham Circle / Place. This is creating a very dangerous situation with the large number of children in the neighborhood. Cranberry Heights is also a sidewalk community, therefore not only affecting children in the immediate area of the intersection.
Some small steps have been taken earlier this summer, in that a speed test was taken near the intersection. This was nothing short of an appeasement tactic used by the township, since the test was not properly conducted. The test point was between the intersection and Chadwick Trail. This was registering some very slow speeds due to traffic either just turning onto Cranberry Heights Drive from Chadwick, or slowing to turn onto Chadwick. Also, you have vehicles slowing at this specific point to turn onto either Cottingham Circle, or Cottingham Place. Chadwick is used heavily to access Route 19, therefore the logical place to test would have been on the northern side of the intersection where the vehicles are not slowing to turn, and have built speed through the flat area between Cottingham and Chapel Way. Having said that, we believe the results indicated an AVERAGE speed around 3 mph above the posted limit. Had it been done properly, the results no doubt would be compelling.
Of concern also is the fact that Cranberry Heights Drive is to connect to Route 19 through the neighborhood. Although technically not considered to be in the neighborhood, since the homes along Heights drive face inward, the reality is that it runs through the heart of the development, dividing the streets on either side. With the connection to Route 19, traffic will also become heavier, which is a concern in and of itself.
We request a stop sign be installed at aforementioned intersection, at the very least. We also do not want the speed limit to increase once the road is completed. A children at play sign would be a start, but the reality is that it would have little to no affect. Now is the time to correct this situation and help aid in the safety of our children, before the inevitable occurs.
