Congressman Jim McDermott for US Ambassador to India sign now

To President Obama

Dear Mr. President,

The post of US Ambassador to India has opened up. With due respect and diligence, we the undersigned request you to kindly consider Congressman Jim McDermott for this assignment.

Indo-US relations are undergoing tremendous changes, not just within the two countries but also with the surrounding neighbors of India. This is a time that requires a statesman that understands the dynamics and intricate ethnic diversity to foster a amicable relationship before any tangible business agreements.

Congressman Jim McDermott has visited India for more than 22 times since early 80's. He has visited almost all states and Union Territories. His 22nd visit was last November 2010, followed by President Obama's first visit to India. He visited the state of Orissa for the first time leading the WASITRAC trade delegation.

Congressman McDermott is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans the largest country caucus in the House of Representatives, with 154 members, formed in 1994. By leading the caucus, he promotes understanding of the issues facing India, the worlds largest democracy, and works to foster dialogue between India and the United States on issues of mutual importance. The India caucus is the major forum in the House of Representatives for those wishing to learn about or work on efforts relating to India.

He has accompanied President Bill Clinton and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on their first visits to India. This emphasizes his understanding and grasp of the Indian political diaspora. His love and respect for India and acquaintance of Indian culture is incomparable. His knowledge of the intricate ethnic diversity and his, commitment to understand the Indian democracy, its social attributes and secularism has made him the most recognizable US Leader in the Indian sub-continent.

He has been a strong advocate of doing trade with India, long before it was perceived to be an emerging market by any one.

Thus we humbly request your kind and valuable attention to this matter, so US can have a dependable and empathetic leader in Congressman McDermott, for this highly responsible position at a critical moment.
