Comprehensive ESPN Coverage of All UEFA Champions League Matches sign now

We, international soccer fans living in the United States, ask that ESPN provide comprehensive coverage of all UEFA Champions League Matches.

For several years, we have been striving for more of a soccer presence American TV. In recent years, we have benefited from the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) broadcasting major international soccer events as well as the Major League Soccer (MLS) games in the United States.

The Champions League (CL) is the pinnacle of soccer in Europe. It is the annual competition that all true soccer fans cherish most. We arrange our weekly schedules in advance in order to be in front of the television or at the stadium at match time. In short, the CL match is apart of our culture and brings excitement to our lives.

ESPN has been considerate enough to buy the rights to the CL matches for viewers in the United States of America. However, the soccer fans have experienced the disappointment of being limited to one match per week. Most of the games played in a given match-week are being broadcast using the tape-delay method. In this instance, the tape-delay method broadcasts to the international audiences, on a channel that is not available to most US cable satellite viewers. The rest of us are puzzled about the reasons regarding the same opportunity not being given to the US viewers. In addition, it has recently been reduced from two live match-day games to one.

We understand that ESPN distribution capabilities will be available in early 2004. However, most of the CL matches during 2003-2004 European CL season will commence well before that date. We are also concerned that many cable and satellite companies might not take immediate action in order to include this channel in their line-up. As a result, we would be disappointed once again, and miss many of the great games during this season.

All US cable and satellite companies have ESPN and ESPN2 channel availability, and we implore ESPN to schedule all of the CL matches via live or tape-delay method.

Many of us are willing to watch these soccer games on Pay-Per-View if that choice becomes available. ESPN has Pay-Per-View packages for College Football and many other sports. Having this package availability for the matches of soccer teams from Britain, Spain, Italy, Scotland, Turkey, Greece, Netherlands should also be considered. There is a substantial market in the USA for these games. We would like to prove that there is enough of a supportive market and demand in the USA for these games through the signing of this petition.

We hope you understand and take action accordingly as soon as possible. We believe by providing comprehensive coverage of all CL games, ESPN will make its number one sports network position much stronger.
