Clan Sinclair Library Books sign now

The purpose of this petition is to ask the Right Honourable Earl of Caithness to not sell the valuable books that have been previously donated to the Clan Sinclair Library and Study Centre.

It has become known that the Clan Sinclair Trust may have some forthcoming legal expenses. It has also become known, that members of the Clan Sinclair Trust are considering, as a means to raise funds, the sale of these priceless historical research books. It is true that these books are assets of the Clan Sinclair Trust, but they were not donated to the trust for the purposes of being sold to raise funds, whatever the cause.

Historically, the Sinclair Clan had a valuable Library at Rosslyn. Today work is being done to create a new Clan Sinclair Library, some of this work can be seen at Noss Head.

We ask the Right Honourable Earl of Caithness and the Right Honourable Viscount Thurso to PREVENT THE SALE OF THESE BOOKS.

We also ask the Right Honourable Earl of Caithness and the Right Honourable Viscount Thurso to think about the implications that this "book sale" would have on future generations of the Sinclair family and researchers around the world.

We can choose our friends but not our relatives. This is an insult to Clan Sinclair friends and researchers despite the shortshrift thought of the Earl.

No man has the right to sell that which does not belong solely to him. It is wise to rethink folly before it is to late to do so.

I know the details of this and it's unbelievably ugly. This library and it's contents were generously donated to be a gift to Sinclairs worldwide. It was given a home where our clan has it's home, Caithness. And now to have the very head of our family thre

I think yes that these books or any books of historical value should be protected, and would expect those that they were entrusted to, would be HONOURABLE enough to make the correct decision.

The sale of these books would loose the support of families around the world who currently look to Caithness for inspiration and solidarity. Once lost this support may not be regained. It is best to face up to the mistakes that have been made and not comp

These books were bought and collected principally by one man, to benefit all of the Sinclair Clans ,and should not under any circumstances be sold . Rosslyn was the great Sinclair library of old, perhaps if the northern Sinclairs cannot look after it ,the

I wish to support the Petition for Niven Sinclair because "Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man." (Quote Mark Twain)
