Citizens of Mumbai against Frequent Strikes by Municipal employees sign now

This refers to a Public Notice issued by Municipal
Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in the leading newspapers on
Sunday, 20th March, 2005. As per the notice, employees unions are
demanding 29\% hike in DA since 2000. Now these unions have threaten to
go on Strike. On each & every occassion, these unions go on strike. Do
they ever think of Mumbaikars? Do they know How much trouble every
Mumbaikar face at general places, everytime? In every television interview, President of Municipal Mazdoor Union blames Citizens of Mumbai for workers' 'so-called' long pending demands. What is the fault of Citizens of Mumbai? Are they not paying taxes regularly? If they are depositing their taxes in MCGM's treasury regularly then it is the important & primary duty of MCGM employees to provide an uninterrupted service to the Citizens of Mumbai. As per the landmark judgement given by Hon'ble Supreme Court of India on 6th August, 2003, government employees don't have any fundamental, legal or equitable right to go on strike.

Then also no one, including government machinery, do not initiate any legal
action for Contempt of Court against these Municipal employees. These
employees are in the service of public. It is their primary
responsibilty to serve the public. Many times, it is seen on
television that the President of Municipal Mazdoor Union always claims
that these workers do the odd kind of job for the public, without any
hesitation. Mr.President, if these workers are not interested in doing
an odd job then let them resign. No one is forcing them to work. Please note that these workers are not doing job Free of Cost or Voluntarily. They are one of the highest paid government workers in the country. MCGM is not an Institution Owned & Managed by Workers. Moreover Hon'ble Justice Kurdukar Pay Revision Committee was appointed in consultation with these unions only. If these workers thinks that such commitee's recommendations are not in their favor, then why they have adopted other recommendations?

On the one hand, an unemployment is growing rapidly
day-by-day. On the other hand, these employees, are making illegitimate demands. It's better if MCGM Commissioner sack these agitating employees & recruit/ appoint some private companies to provide very good service to the citizens of Mumbai.
