Citi Field Obstructions, Promenade Box LED sign now

Dear Mr. Fred Wilpon,

The New York Mets organization is a very important part in all of our lives. We all are 162-a-year die hard fans and spend, willingly in this economy, our hard earned money to come to the ballpark to watch our beloved Mets. We are all absolutely thrilled and excited about the new Citi Field and appreciate the time, dedication and hard work that the New York Mets, construction workers and its affiliates invested into this project.

However, there are some gross issues with the new stadium, specifically the Promenade Box LED obstruction. It has been expressed many times by ownership that the new Citi Field will have "sight-lines like no other" with little or no obstructions. This has been contradicted by a large number of season ticket holders who reside in the first few rows of the Promenade Box section. Though online chats, blogs and email correspondence we understand that this remains an issue even after seeing it for ourselves during the exhibition weekend. It is hard to believe that a project of this size in 2009 which had so much planning and investment has an obstruction which would generate a quote from Dave Howard, VP, in the February 26th Newsday article:

"If you're a shorter person it could be an issue," Howard said, "but we think that can be addressed in some way with booster pads . . . For most adults it should not be an issue, and if it becomes an issue we'll have the means to address it."

In this quote Mr. Howard is not denying there is an issue. Mr. Howard also goes so far as to provide a solution by utilizing "booster pads". Finally, Mr. Howard alludes to the fact that this has been discussed by Ownership and some "means" have been ear-marked as a solution.

Mr. Wilpon, there is an issue with obstructions from the LED ribbon in the Promenade Box. Employees of the organization have tried to dismiss this as a non issue, but season ticket holders are seeing it first hand and are reporting that it is a problem. The season ticket holders in the affected areas have been part of the Mets season ticket plans for many years in order to have the opportunity to buy these seats. Season ticket holders have invested a lot of time and money into the organization, through tickets and concessions. We trusted the organization that the seats which were sold in these sections would not have obstructions.

We undersigned are appalled by the lack of planning, communication and response to the LED obstructions in the Promenade Box. This petition is a vehicle to express our bitter disappointment at the New York Mets for its planning and "spin" applied to obstructed seats. We the undersigned ask the New York Mets organization to address the issue with the obstructed seats from the LED and be presented with a solution to remedy the obstruction, as indicated by Mr. Howard in the February 26, 2009 Newsday article.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
