BBM GRF Changes sign now

We urge that the BBM Powers That Be revisit the Game Resolution Formula which has served the BBM community so well for all of these years. In an effort to improve the resolution of games in a manner that provides more consistency and rewards the most efficient management efforts, we ask that the following two changes be implemented.

I. Reduce Number of Tie-Breaker Games

Because of the averaging of offensive and pitching stats to arrive at a score, there is a much higher percentage of one run games than there are in MLB. As a result of the artificially close scores and the effects it can have due to rounding before determining a winner, a LOT of unnecessary luck is introduced into the game. We should use raw scores to determine winners and losers, not introduce rounding to create ties where ties do not need to exist. Raw score should be used if the difference between raw scores is greater than 0.1 runs, instead of 0.5 as today's GRF uses.

II. Adjustment to accurately calculate walks

Our GRF is basically (Times on Base)*(Total Bases)/PA.
We would like to see it re-written this way: (Times on Base/PA)*(Total Bases/PA)*PA.

The slugging percentage portion of the equation is being divided by plate appearances rather than at bats, effectively discounting the value of the walks, because each walk is reducing the slugging percentage. Either the formula needs to be re-written to be in its basic form (Times on Base/PA)*(Total Bases/AB)*PA or we need to account for the entire equation being divided by plate appearances by making an on base adjustment in the total bases portion of the equation as the runs created formula does. In case anyone reading this isn't familiar with the runs created formula, here it is:

[(H + BB + HBP - CS - GIDP) times (Total bases + .26[BB - IBB + HBP] + .52[SH + SF + SB])] divided by (AB + BB + HBP + SH+ SF)

Compare that to the latest GRF that we know about:

[(H + BB + HBP - CS) times (Total Bases + .6[SH + SF + SB])] divided by (AB + BB + HBP + SH + SF)

As you can see, the GRF is almost identical, with a couple of very small differences of the exclusion of GIDP and slightly different adjustment to the SH + SF + SB portion, but there is the very large difference of the omission in the GRF of the OBP adjustment in the times on base side of the equation to account for the fact that we're dividing both sides by plate appearances. This needs to be changed in order to provide accurate results.

Again, we urge BBM management to implement the changes outlined in this petition.
