Ban the Partial Birth Abortion Ban sign now

We, the undersigned, feel that the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban is an unjust and gross violation of justice. The first sign of this is in the name itself-in the medical community, there is truly no such thing as a 'Partial-Birth Abortion.' This is a term coined by those belonging to the pro-life sentiment, who try and use this to manipulate the emotions of others, even as they show pictures of miscarriages (often stolen from Medical Waste containers.) Such propaganda has no place in a court of law.

Moreover, this ban gives no health exception. What makes this ironic is the simple fact that the procedure itself was mainly used for health reasons. It was not an elective procedure. Despite the ban's claim of Dilation and Extraction (The actual, medical term for one version of 'Partial Birth Abortion') never being medically necessary-peer-reviewed medical journals have reached the opposite conclusion. We must ask ourselves-who's more knowledgeable on this subject? The judges of the Supreme Court, who do indeed know much about law but not necessarily medicine, or the doctors who have made this their profession? (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6424425)

The claim that the health exception would extend to all pregnancies is true. The claim that this is why they must not have a health exception is ridiculous. Every pregnancy does indeed have a chance of going south at any time, with little or no warning. Pregnancy is a health risk, and doctors should have every medical option open to them. The fact is, that in many cases this procedure is necessary-and it is unfair to put doctors in the position of choosing between a less effective method and their oath.

Moreover, being 'gruesome' and 'disgusting' is NOT a valid reason for banning something. The end result of the digestive system isn't all that lovely, and neither is open-heart surgery. These things are still needed. These things are not bad simply because most folk don't enjoy watching them. And, the claim that it can damage women's mental health? I am shocked they haven't done the small amount of research necessary to know that PAS (Post-Abortion Syndrome) is a myth, and has been confirmed as one by the APA (American Psychology Association) as one. Using it as justification for a law? Ridiculous.

We, the Undersigned, feel that this ban should be overturned. It should no longer be legal-as it's a ridiculous ban, justified by laws, misconceptions and propaganda. It endangers the health of women, puts doctors in hard situations, and furthers the myths it is built on. If the ban must exist, allow a health exception, and give it a name that accurately reflects what its banning-rather then using terms that are medically incorrect.
