Baby Bullet SSF Stop sign now

Since 1999, South San Francisco's industrial market has experienced phenomenal growth with the high-tech and biotechnology industries driving development. Currently, the city contains 22 million square feet (or 32\% in San Mateo County) of industrial net rentable area. Between 1998 and 1999, City officials approved 1,024 residential units, 2,338,000 square feet for industrial, R&D, and commercial development, and 2,232 hotel rooms. Many employees in these industries live in the South Bay. Two commuting options are available to them, either to struggle with gridlock traffic on Highways 101/280 or have a greater than 1.5 hr door-to-door commute on Caltrain. The majority of us choose the former primarily because the BABY BULLET does not stop in South San Francisco, even though our employers provide commuter shuttle from South San Francisco.

Earlier this year Caltrain undertook a survey to determine commuter density at different train stations and they should have been struck by the popularity of the South San Francisco stop. Californians are supposed to be Earth conscious and environmentally friendly, yet Caltrain is making it more difficult for us to do what is best by offering better commuter alternatives. Would you rather we drive to work, waste natural resources and pollute like the rest? If Caltrain were to add a morning and evening BABY BULLET scheduled stop at South San Francisco they would greatly win back a great majority of commuters who have opted for a 1hr drive rather than sit on the train for 1.5 hrs. This translates to 1hr saved each day (20 hrs a month) to spend with family.

The authorities are to be commended for starting the BABY BULLET service. While this is a commendable first effort, it is now time to be innovative and expand the customer base by targeting stops that provide the most impact to the commuting majority. Local companies continue to demonstrate their dedication to promoting environmental friendly commuter sense. Now it is your turn!

We, the undersigned, demand that Caltrain add a morning and evening BABY BULLET express service scheduled stop at South San Francisco.
