Axe every pointless, meaningless, awards ceremony on BBC-1, BBC-2 and ITV-1. sign now

We the undersigned request that every pointless, meaningless, awards ceremony on BBC-1, BBC-2 and ITV-1 is axed altogether.

How on earth television bosses can justify having all these pointless, meaningless award ceremonies on the air when British Television is in a disgraceful taste I don't know. The fact is, all these awards that are given out do not reflect the state that Britsh Television is actually in. The British Soap Awards first introduced in 1998 is a farce because apart from the following three categories - Best Soap, Best Soap Actor and Best Soap Actress, the other categories at this awards ceremony are bloody meaningless. Soap actors and actresses might win awards for all these meaningless categories, but what the soaps are not doing anymore is winning enough viewers, so where is the logic to giving out all these awards. The Best TV Moments of what ever year it is first introduced in 2003 is another load of tripe. What best tv moments, there aren't any. The British Comedy Awards is a load of rubbish as well. All these comedy programmes and comedy performers are winning awards, but hardly any viewers. The National Television Awards first introduced in 1995 gives out awards for most popular this and most popular that, but aren't as popular as you think they are. Besides crap televised award ceremonies there are also crap non televised award ceremonies as well - The Inside Soap Awards, The TV Choice and TV Quick Awards and The Whats On TV Awards. All these televised and non televised award ceremonies are crap because 1) the categories are meaningless 2) the trophies look cheap and nasty, excluding the trophies at The Baftas, The National Television Awards and The Royal Television Society Awards and 3) apart from the National Television Awards which is judged on half a million or a million votes which isn't really conclusive enough is it, the other televised and non televised award ceremonies are judged by a so called panal of judges, who haven't got a clue on what a decent television programme is or who is talented and who isn't. Also there are only about 15-20 individuals on a panal of judges, so these other televised and non televised award ceremonies are even less conclusive than The National Television Awards. Incidentally, I think you've forgotten the fact that programmes are watched by starting at 1 million up to about 12 million, so if everybody got their fingers out and took the trouble to vote, you would see some miraculous changes and the right programmes and individuals would win and this is how it should be. Also what about programmes that have lost viewers altogether. At one time, programmes were watched by 20 million people. What would the missing millions from programmes vote for, ask yourselves that question. They wouldn't vote for anything because they don't even watch television anymore to offer an opinion either way, good or crap. The reason they have stopped watching television is because in general it has gone completely downhill. There might be other pointless, meaningless, televised and non televised award ceremonies that I haven't mentioned here that will want axing altogether, but I have listed as many as I can think of. Years ago in the old days of television we didn't have all these pointless, meaningless, award ceremonies, but what we did have was better quality programmes that won viewers. British Television needs to go back to how it was years ago if it is ever going to pick up again and a good way to start improving things would be to axe all these crappy award ceremonies. In my opinion, awards should only be given out for two things, bravery or excellence, nothing more, nothing less, as otherwise if you just give awards out for the sake of giving them out it looks a nonsensical farce.

However, there are currently four televised award ceremonies and one non televised awards ceremony that should be spared from the axe e.g. The Baftas, The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, The Classical Brit Awards, The Pride of Britain Awards and The Royal Television Society Awards. These five particular award ceremonies are the better award cermonies because they are the important ones, whereas all those award cermonies I have mentioned above for axing altogether are of no real importance whatsoever. The Baftas from now on should be decided by the public in my opinion. At present, I think The Baftas are too posh and need adjusting and improving slightly, but without dumbing them down and if 20 million people took the trouble to vote, The Baftas would be much improved.
