Appeal for Travis Carter sign now

In early 2004 the family of Travis Carter was told their son had been accepted as one of the subjects for a gene therapy trial at Cornell University. Travis has a rare disease called Late Infantile Batten Disease, a disease that is uniformly fatal. Gene therapy is currently the only prospective treatment for this disease. All other treatment at present is only symptomatic and supportive.

Unexpectedly, Travis family was told their son was no longer being considered for the gene therapy trial at Cornell, after conclusion that the surgery would be too high risk for Travis. We appeal to Cornell to reconsider their decision, given prior promises to the family that Travis was accepted into the trial, the fact children in a more advanced stage of disease than Travis have been successfully treated, and the poor prognosis Travis faces without the gene therapy.
