2005 and by interviewing the affected families of different villages from 2004 onwards.

There were 132 human casualties in Mandi district by leopards, out of which 32 casualties were in Mandi forest division (FD), 60 in Sunder Nagar FD, 31 in

Joginder Nagar FD, 6 in Nachan FD and 3 in Karsog FD. Human killings and injury cases were very high in Mandi FD. Human killings were 3.1 \%, 3.3 \%, and

25.8\%, and injury cases were 96.9 \%, 96.7\% and 74.2 \% in Mandi, Sunder Nagar and Joginder Nagar FDs respectively.

paid for 50.8\% the cases within 3 months of occurrence of incidences and 18.18\% cases within 3-6 months. Recommendations have been made to reduce the

human casualties by leopard in Mandi district

Jim Corbett was frequently called upon by the government of the United Provinces (now the Indian state of Uttarakhand) to slay man-eating tigers and leopards

who had killed people in the villages of the Kumaon region. Corbett was able to succeed in many cases where numerous others had failed.

Between 1910 and 1938, Corbett shot much-feared man-eaters such as the Champawat Tiger, the Leopard of Rudraprayag, the Tigers of Chowgarh and the

Panar Leopard, who had cumulatively killed over a thousand people.

Corbett has shot as documented 19 Tigers and 14 Leopards- a total of 33 recorded and documented kills. One of the most famous was the man-eating Leopard of

Rudraprayag, which terrorised the pilgrims to the holy Hindu shrines Kedarnath and Badrinath for more than ten years.

His success in slaying the man-eaters earned him much respect and fame amongst the people residing in the villages of Kumaon, many of whom considered him a

sadhu (saint). The Corbett National Park in Kumaon is named in his honour.
