An amnesty for Scottish asylum families sign now

We, the undersigned, are outraged that innocent asylum families many of whom have been happily settled for years in Scotland and the rest of the UK - continue to be removed from their homes in 'dawn raids' on their homes . In Glasgow and elsewhere, families with young children who think themselves to be Scottish and who have been welcomed into the hearts of local communities are being treated in a manner that by their own admission Scottish Ministers deem unacceptable.

Communities are heartbroken by the unremitting overnight 'disappearances' of their friends, neighbours and pupils and living in fear of who may be next.

We believe this goes totally against the spirit of One Scotland, Many Cultures and Scotland's need for people to come and settle, work and build families here.

We believe that dawn raids, anytime raids or the weekly disappearances of innocent families have no place in a civilised society.

We are therefore calling for an amnesty for all Scottish asylum families living here for a year or more. A precedent was set in 2002 for such an amnesty by the then Home Secretary. Scotland's economic conditions would benefit from such an amnesty today. We call on our First Minister to voice his support for such an amnesty for Scottish asylum families and to seek this from the Home Office as a matter of urgency.

We really need to take more action. More protests outside Courts and attempts like those made by SSP members to stop the Immigration Authorities snatch squads are justified when basic human rights are being breached on a right wing agenda

What is happening is appalling. Scotland needs more young people in its population, young people just like those the Government is busy deporting.

i am ashamed to be scottish if this is how we treat people, especially children. there are other ways to deal with the issues - we're under populated as it is for god's sake.

This is a time for compassion and common sense. Clearly, the current policy lacks both. We need to have better understanding of the plight of those seeking asylum and treat people's needs with humanity and full consideration, not a binary assessment, but

I am ashamed of the way in which my country is acting towards those who seek refuge with us. It is a scroundrel's excuse to hide behind London. It is the responsibility of our Government to do the right thing.
