Subject: PETITION TO REINSTATE THE DIRECT AND NON-STOP FLIGHTS FROM SAN FRANCISCO INTL. AIRPORT (SFO) TO ROME, FIUMICINO AIRPORT (FCO) AND VICE-VERSA.

Alitalia, the Italian airline company, is the sixth in Europe for number of passengers (22 millions per year), with a fleet of 180 aircrafts and thousands of daily flights.
In 2001, more than 26.6 million passengers flew on Alitalia.

1. In 2002, after over 2 decades of presence on the US Pacific Coast, Alitalia shut down its San Francisco and Los Angeles offices, on the US Pacific Coast.
Alitalia non-stop and direct flights are no longer available from San Francisco or Los Angeles to either Rome or Milan and vice-versa.

2. What used to be a maximum of a 14 hour-journey has become, for Bay Area residents a dreadful and exhausting experience, especially for the aging Italian-American community.

3. With this petition, we here ask Alitalia Airlines, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the Italian Government to reinstate non-stop flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and vice-versa.

Please, bring back the wonderful non-stop , and direct services back to the Bay Area. I feel that Italy is a very beautiful location, and Italy could pick up a lot more tourists and visitors from the Western United States should Alitalia bring back there
