Aggressive policy of Russia toward Georgia sign now

Progressive people all over the world are deeply worried by the atrocious and aggressive policy of Russia towards Georgia. Russia carried out a direct and brutal military intervention into the conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia. A failure of the international community to react immediately and adequately to this jackbooted invasion of Russian troops may lead to other more serious problems for the world in the future.
In 1939, without any legitimate legal right, the Russian army invaded Finland. In 1968, the KGB led their tanks to Czechoslovakia and Hungary. And just several years ago, Russia demonstrated its ruthless aggression in Chechnya.

Russian people know history very well and are fully aware that historically the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia always belonged to Georgia. Earlier, before the rise of Yeltsin and Putin to power, the Russian and Georgian people and their governments used to be friends [and had no serious problems separating them??].

Georgia is surrounded by Muslim countries that used to be very hostile to her. Friendship with Russia, a powerful Christian country, protected Georgia from further hostilities. Georgia has fertile lands and abundant water resources. Being always rich with agricultural products, it supplied them to its own population and to people all over Russia. Russian people loved to visit Georgia with its beautiful places and renowned Black Sea resorts. However, Vladimir Putin, former Russian president, decided that these fabulous resorts in Abkhazia should belong to Russia. This could only be done by separating Abkhazia from Georgia.

The Russian and Georgian governments must revive the historical good neighborly relations between their countries by means of reciprocal compromises and mutual respect.

Georgia will try all peaceful or military ways to restore its sovereignty on the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Back in the time when Khrushchev held the helm of the former Soviet Union, Abkhazia wanted to separate from Georgia and was told that the territory of Abkhazia belongs to Georgia, and if Abkhazians do not want to live in Georgia, they could be given some other territory in Russia. The same may be offered to the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia now. If they do not wish to live with Georgians on the Georgian land, they can ask the Russian government to let them relocate in Russia. If Mr. Medvedev and the Russian government are so much concerned about the future of these people, they may allocate a territory in Russia for these people. All the more so since, according to the statement of the Russian president, most of the population of South Ossetia are Russian citizens.

The brutal aggressive policy of Russia towards Georgia may be stopped by admitting Georgia into NATO. This will also preserve the integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. Facing the current explosive situation, we have to call upon all progressive countries of the world to take urgent measures for immediate admission of Georgia into NATO. In addition, a group of observers from European countries and the USA must be sent to the zone of conflict between Georgia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Russia.
The actions of Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Putin against Georgia are reminiscent of the political actions of Russia against Israel. In World War II, the Soviet Army defeated fascism and destroyed Hitler, which won sympathy of all progressive people all over the world.

Today, deplorably, the Russian government headed by V. Putin supports Iran in the creation of nuclear weapons, whereas the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proudly declares that the State of Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth together with the Israeli people. Ahmadinejad supplies modern weapons to most terrorist organizations in the world, perhaps even Al-Qaeda. Do Mr. Putin and his government stand for that revival of a modern Hitler? All progressive countries of the world are unanimously opposed to the development of nuclear weapons in Iran, and only V. Putin and his government keep voting at the United Nations against the imposition of sanctions on Iran.

Using nefarious demagogy and vicious lies, Mr. Medvedev, President of Russia, Mr. Putin, Head of the Russian Government, and Mr. Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, are trying their best to malign and vilify Mr. Saakashvili, the democratically elected president of Georgia. They are lying that the number of civilians died in South Ossetia runs into thousands (1,6002,000), whereas numerous objective sources are saying that the number of casualties is several hundreds at most. There was no excuse whatsoever for the Russian troops to invade the Georgian city of Poti, which is very far from the conflict area. This was done only to help the military aggression of Abkhazia against Georgia. Meanwhile, Abkhazians took advantage of the tense situation and entered Georgia under the cover of Russian tank forces. All this inflicted enormous harm to tourism in Georgia and the entire Georgian economy.

This petition will be addressed to the General Secretary of the United Nations Organization and signed by many progressive people in the world and in Russia. Sergey Kovaliev, renowned Russian scientist and historian, fully corroborates the facts mentioned in this open letter.
At the same time, member of the Russian Parliament, Mr. Zhirinovsky, worse than any Fascist, suggested to Russian Army to bomb strongly and cruelly Tbilisi and all Georgia.

This petition, signed by millions all over the world, will have a healing impact on the dangerous policy of Mr. V. Putin and the Russian government, which these days is reminiscent of the fallacious demagogy of the former KGB and represents a revival of Russian chauvinism.

Dear friends, if you agree with this petition, please sign it and let your friends know. If millions of people from all over the world will sign this petition than it may force President Medvedev and V. Putin change their very aggression politic against Georgia.
