Against For-Profit United States Medical Education sign now

We the undersigned strongly disapprove of for-profit medical education. In the words of Abraham Flexner, we believe that the medical profession is an organ differentiated by society for its highest purposes, not a business to be exploited. We further believe that for-profit medical education is potentially detrimental to public health, welfare and safety and is contrary to the tenets of Osteopathic philosophy. We petition the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation / American Osteopathic Association to make an official statement of disapproval of for-profit medical education.

A for-profit medical school is unethical by profiteering off the dollars spent by humanity's youth to become healers. Profit and capitalism should stear clear of medical education.

If you want to raise the profile of osteopathic eduction, allow a non profit school in DC, not a for profit one anywhere.

Will the administrators of this school be more concerned about the welfare of the students or that of the investors?

the industrialization of the medical field has irreversibly damaged the delivery of care to the American public. The institution of such "for profit" schools can only do more harm than any possible benefit.

This makes me embarassed to tell people that I am an osteopathic medical student as some people question the validity of a DO degree already.
