Actor's Equity Association and Spanish Language Theater sign now

WHEREAS, Actor's Equity Association is the nationally recognized union for professional actors and stage managers with thousands of members across the United States, and
WHEREAS, Actor's Equity Association has in the past publicly denounced and has aggressively advocated union jobs over non-union so as to gain a just and equitable wage for the performing stage artists, and
WHEREAS, Actor's Equity Association as a result of their aggressive work has made substantial improvements in the lives and livelihoods of the performing stage artist, with many producers and theater Companys opting to produce under Equity Contract Rules, making huge gains in health and pension benefits for the performing stage artists, and
WHEREAS it is understood that the "Equity" name carries the long established reputation of the "Broadway" brand of productions, and
WHEREAS, Actor's Equity Association has a policy that does not regulate Spanish Language Theater for performing stage artists, allowing producers and theater Companys to pay a less then justifiable living wage, and
WHEREAS, such policy discriminates against any person seeking to work in Spanish Language Theater, and further such policy discriminates against a particular group on the basis of ethnicity and or language, and
WHEREAS, such policy labels Spanish Language Theater as non-professional as it is not regulated by Actor's Equity Association, and
WHEREAS, there are members of Actor's Equity Association who in addition to English Language, do work in Spanish Language Theater but do not benefit because of such policy.
THEREFORE, it is dully noted by the Undersigned, that performing stage artists and stage managers working in Spanish Language Theater should be afforded and demand the same rights and privileges as their English Speaking counterparts and respectfully request Actor's Equity Association to re-visit and revise this policy so as to include, regulate, and safeguard Equity Rights and Privileges for performing stage artists and stage managers working in Spanish language theater.
