Access and Equity in Education- a call for support for TYP sign now

Access and equity are important to preserve so that all people have an opportunity to reach their potential. Previously, the University of Toronto (U of T) has been committed to access and equity by supporting programs such as the Transitional Year Programme (TYP). This support is no longer forthcoming. TYP is a unique access program for those who due to financial barriers, family difficulties or other circumstances beyond their control do not have the formal educational background to enter university through conventional routes. The benefits and opportunities that TYP provides so many students must be maintained and developed in order to preserve access and equity at the U of T. This essential programme is under threat from budget and staffing cuts. In order to ensure that U of T maintains its commitment to access and equity, we feel it is essential that appropriate funding, current levels of staffing and TYP's autonomy as an independent division within the faculty of Arts and Science be preserved.

We, the undersigned, formally request that the University of Toronto upholds its commitment to access and equity by preserving the Transitional Year Programme as an autonomous program with proper levels of funding and staffing.

(are welcomed) This is a very important program and should remain here at the University of Toronto. This program enables university access to the underprivileged and disadvantaged. This community is necessary at U of T!
