A request for the NFL to investigate the final 2:00 of the 2002 AFC Championship Game sign now

We the fans of the Oakland Raiders demand that the National Football League and Commissioner Roger Goodell review the last 2:00 minutes of the AFC Championship Game held January 19th, 2002. At 1:48, in the fourth quarter, Woodson caused an obvious fumble. The play was, originally and correctly, ruled a fumble. Bradys arm was not in forward motion when the ball left his hand. There does not appear to be conclusive evidence to overturn the call and rule this play an incomplete pass. The following is the definition of a fumble.

Fumble: The loss of possession of the ball.

Nowhere in the definition does it state...

Fumble: The loss of possession of the ball (unless you are Tom Brady).

The play listed above cost the Oakland Raiders an AFC Championship and a trip to the Super Bowl. A Super Bowl which they deserved to be a part of. We do not feel the Oakland Raiders nor the Raider Nation should have been deprived of such an achievement. It is not our fault the referees did not understand the definition of a fumble.

Commissioners Authority
The Commissioner has sole authority to investigate and to take appropriate disciplinary or corrective measures if any club action, nonparticipant interference, or emergency occurs in an NFL game which he deems so unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action has a major effect on the result of a game.

Penalties for Unfair Acts
The Commissioners powers under this section (UNFAIR ACTS) include the imposition of monetary fines and draft choice forfeitures, suspension of persons involved, and, if appropriate, the reversal of a games result or the rescheduling of a game, either from the beginning or from the point at which the extraordinary act occurred. In the event of rescheduling a game, the Commissioner will be guided by the procedures specified above ("Procedures for Starting and Resuming Games" under EMERGENCIES). In all cases, the Commissioner will conduct a full investigation, including the opportunity for hearings, use of game videotape, and any other procedures he deems appropriate.

Please do the right thing and investigate this game.

Sincerely,

Raider Nation
