A Plea to Infinity Broadcasting - WHFS sign now

We, the Undersigned and former listners of 99.1 WHFS (Baltimore/Annapolis/Washington D.C.) are greatly appalled from the abrupt transition of station format from the iconic alternative Rock station with the former call letters of WHFS to the current 99.1 EL Zol, Siempre De Feista.

This station format switch came during the middle of a workday (12 noon), in the middle of a work week (Wednesday 12 January 2005), when agreeably the listening audience is most at work. This apparent timing was a shock to those whom listen to the station during their morning and evening commutes while commiserating with such memorable and stimulating Disc Jockeys as the Junkies in the Morning, Tim Virgin, and Big O and Dukes. This switch off prime, appears to have taken place when there would be less of a notice to listeners during commuting hours. This switch was made without notice to the public and has come to a great shock and uproar throughout the listening area.

WHFS had been a pioneer of New Wave Music in the 1980's and most recently Alternative music from the 1990's on. WHFS had been known as a top 10 market for Music Artist and other Entertainment types as they pass through the Nation's Capital. This draw captivated listeners to stay in the know for what was new, fresh, and the next big thing, for the past few decades.

Without WHFS the world may never have heard of such great artists as Good Charlotte, who got their big break from the radio station, to open up for their ritual kick-off to summer concert known as the HFStival. This concert is featured in national magazines and on MTV. Many national artists have graced the stages of the HFStival and can attribute their rapid success to exposure from the concert.

Many of WHFS listeners listen to the station as part of their daily routines and have come to expect and enjoy the programming that was a staple to the station. In addition to aforementioned Junkies in the Morning, the syndicated call-in show "LoveLine" was a favorite.

The former listerners to WHFS are deeply saddened by this sudden event and will not stand for bland music and having to turn else where for their beloved Disk Jockeys. Thus, we are collecting signatures for this petition, to bring back WHFS to "The New Alternative" and restore history and music as it should be. We demand WHFS to be returned to the air-waves of the DC/Baltimore/Annapolis metropolitan area immediately. Thank you.

Infinity showed a lack of business ethics and loyalty to HFS's countless fans in changing the format in such a underhanded manner. The least they could have done was informed their audience prior to the switch.
