A Personal Statement of Friendship and Solidarity with the People of Iran

i. This statement is made solely on the behalf of those people who have signed it. We speak only for ourselves.

ii. No government directed this statement to be made, or determined what it should say.

iii. This statement is addressed to all the people of Iran, regardless of political or religious affiliation.

We say to you:

1. We love and cherish all of the people of the nation of Iran, as we love all people of goodwill in all nations. You are our brothers and sisters in humanity; we bear you only friendship and goodwill for the future. Our fathers and grandfathers may have wronged one another, but we who have not done harm to one another, and bear each other no ill will, we say to you now: we love you as we love our own brothers and sisters; our children and grandchildren will be friends; all injustice will be undone; all emnities forgotten; all harms forgiven.

2. Whatever our religious, political, or national affiliations, we all seek to further the causes of truth and justice.

3. We believe in your right to govern your country in the way your people see fit. We believe that the will of the people of Iran must be respected, and that when a democratic election has been held, the results should be counted accurately and truthfully; reported in public; verified by truthful observers; and believed by the people.

4. We stand in solidarity with all the people of Iran who wish to know and believe the truth as to the results of your recent election. We do not say we support any candidate over another; we make no statement regarding the results. We say only that we stand with you in your wish to know and believe the truthful results. We believe that the display of public protest since the election means that a large number of the people of Iran do not believe that they have heard the truth about the results of the election, and that their questions must be answered.

5. We support the right of all people in Iran to peacefully gather together, to talk with one another, and to demonstate their numbers in the public places of their nation, so that their governments and other people may know that those who doubt the truth of what they have been told are numerous, and determined.

6. We believe that violence directed at any peaceful gathering is contrary to all laws; that it violates the trust in their safety that people place in their government; and that the recent violence by agencies of the government directed at peaceful gatherings in Iran must cease.

We, the undersigned, endorse this statement in the spirit of friendship and solidarity with the people of Iran, and on behalf only of ourselves.
