A Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for the actor James Bolam. sign now

We the undersigned request that the film, television and theatre actor James Bolam is made a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

James Bolam was born on 16th June 1938 and is one of the best character actors around. His stage plays include The Kitchen, In Celebration, The Knack, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Happy Haven, The Veterans, Treats (all Royal Court), The White Liars, Who Killed Agatha Christie?, Arms and the Man, Run for Your Wife, Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell (all West End), How's the World Treating You? (New York) and Wild Oats (National Theatre). His films include A Kind of Loving, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Half a Sixpence, O Lucky Man! Straight on Till Morning, Crucible of Terror, Otley, Murder Most Foul, The Great Question and Clockwork Mice. James is probably best known though for his television work. He played Terry Collier in three series of the classic BBC sitcom The Likely Lads (1964-1966) and two series and a Christmas special of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads (1973-1974). Other television roles include Jack Ford in the classic BBC drama series When the Boat Comes In (1976-1977, 1981), Roy Figgis in four series of the ITV sitcom Only When I Laugh (1979-1982), Trevor Chaplain in The Beiderbecke Affair, The Beiderbecke Tapes and The Beiderbecke Connection, Bill Macgregor in five series of the ITV sitcom Second Thoughts (1991-1994), Dr Arthur Gilder in three series of Born and Bred (2002-2004) and Jack Halford in New Tricks (2003-present). James also made a guest appearance in Midsomer Murders on New Year's Eve 1999. Whatever role James plays he's brilliant and it is time he was rewarded for his acting ability.

James has never received any official recognition from the state and we feel it is time he did.
