We the undersigned request that the film, television and theatre actress Sheila Hancock is made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Sheila Hancock was born on 22nd February 1933 and is a very underrated actress. She has starred in over forty films, television programmes and theatre productions over the years. One of her best remembered roles on television was playing Thelma Teesdale in the ITV sitcom Mr Digby Darling. Her film roles include Carry on Cleo and 3 Men and a Little Lady and theatre productions include The Anniversary (West End) and Entertaining Mr Sloane (Broadway) to name but a few. Whatever role Sheila plays she always gives consistent performances. She must be one of the unluckiest people going when it comes to award ceremonies as well. Sheila and Rosemary Leach must have lost out in the Best actress category at the Baftas more times than any other two actresses I can think of. Sheila has never received any official recognition whatsoever and we feel it is time she did.
