67th & 68th Emergency Access Only sign now

To: Snohomish County Councilmember, Dave Gossett, District 4
Snohomish County Planning & Development Services, Erik Olson, Project Manager

We the undersigned oppose the connectivity of 67th Ave NE and 68th Ave NE to Lowell Larimer Road.

We understand that emergency access may be required to the Bennett development adjacent to Lowell Larimer, but are strenuously opposed to opening the road to non-emergency traffic. We have met with Fire District 1, and have reached an understanding with Commissioner Kenny who supports the idea of bollards and would also support the Association in approaching the County. (June 27, 2007 Special Board Meeting Minutes)

The Highlands development was not planned to be an arterial between 132nd and Lowell Larimer. The roads are sized for community traffic, not the volumes which would result by converting it to a North South arterial. Nearby Highway 9 and Seattle Hill road are more adequately sized to accommodate the volumes of traffic our growing county is experiencing.

Our neighborhood has been a desirable community for these past 9 years due to the quiet afforded by being a standalone community. We continue to invest our homeowners funds into the maintenance of our multiple community parks, and our common area landscaping. Traffic is limited to the residents, and our guests.

Children walk to and from the multiple bus stops in our neighborhood, senior citizens enjoy the beauty of our homes nestled between greenbelts, and dog owners exercise their pets safely on the road. Neighbors visit on the sidewalks and conduct conversations while their children play nearby. Bicyclists and runners move safely through our streets. The connectivity of the road will have a detrimental effect on both the standard of life within our existing pleasant neighborhood community and the health of its residents.

We are not against the development of the Bennett property, but we cannot accept the impact the road will have in our community.

We ask for your help in protecting the safety of our neighborhood, and preserve the quality of our environment as we work together to continue to attract families to Snohomish County.
