Petition for Occupy Auckland and the right to peaceful assembly and protest. - Appeal the Court's decision. sign now

Occupy Auckland protestors have been given 48 hours to leave their campsite at Aotea Square. (issued 21-12-2011)

An Auckland District Court judge this morning (21/12/11) ordered the protestors to remove all their signs and banners and move out of the campsite by Friday 23 December 2011.

The protestors have been camping in the city centre square since October 15 2011.

Auckland Council said it welcomed the judge's decision to grant its request for a permanent injunction on the occupation.

Occupy Auckland spokesman Chris Glenn said the movement was in the process of lodging an appeal against the ruling.

Many in the camp were resolved to stay there through Christmas despite the eviction order, he said.

"As far as we're concerned it's business as usual. We're continuing to protest against corporate greed and gross inequality in our society."

Mr Glenn said the occupy protestors had always expected to face legal obstacles and were expecting to win their appeal.

"It's important we don't limit the rights of people to protest."

This is a petition to show your support for Occupy Auckland and Occupy Aotearoa as a whole. It is very important that the rights of all New Zealanders are upheld and that the Bill of Rights act is honoured, not ignored. As Occupy Auckland are intending on appealing the Court's decision, a petition with as many signatures as possible would help in the occupier's case.

Please share this with as many people as you can, and ask them to sign the petition.

In addition to signing the petition, you might like to show support for the occupiers by going to the occupation site/sites and offering moral support. Donations of food and helpful items are always welcomed gifts.

Thank You.
