List Kernicterus (preventable brain damage) on NHS Never events list sign now

Dear MP Jeremy Hunt we would wish for Kernicterus be added to the NHS Never Events List. Please take a moment to read my reasons.

Vasili Kalisperas was born healthy and in good health. My wife was discharged the next day. Unfortunately because seriousness of untreated jaundice is not taken as seriously as it use to be in the previous decade mainly because the damage that can occour is called Kernicterus and was almost eradicated because of treatment given but also because mothers were made to stay in hopsital after birth for longer.

Unfortunately my son was let down after being born healthy he is blind, deaf, with severe spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and with microcephaly. Vasili has lost everything but touch and our love for him. We have lost so much too.

I am determined to save others from this horrible malpractice happening again. If the NHS wish to discharge mothers and babies they need to make sure the maternity personal are competent. This has nothing to do with cuts and funding but basic simple common sense as in our place. Most of which is covered in the National Institution of Clinical Excellence (NICE)
This should be enough but many personal ignore N.I.C.E

We would like Kernicterus be added to the NHS "Never Events" list. This is a list that the NHS count as a never event because there are many preventative systems in place. Regardless of this silly mistakes still happen.

In our case a student that was not signed off as competent by her mentor was the midwife they sent out to my wife even with her previous mistakes. She made another mistake with our child but we do not blame the student but the system that allowed her out.

Many professionals already see Kernicterus as a never event and some I asked assumed it was already listed. therefor agree it should be listed. By listing kernicterus we keep in the back of the mind of the NHS systems they are obliged to provide their clients in many cases very basic care needs and as such in our case would have prevented Vasili's unfortunate future.
