Change GVA Transit Policing Duties and Fines to People who do not pay Fares sign now
The Greater Vancouver Area and Province of British Columbia Transit feels it is fair to fine people $173 for not paying to ride the sky train or purchasing a ticket in a fare paid zone. I feel this is unjust and absolutely ridiculous. A fare to ride transit is $2.50 and if you do not pay this or forget to or do not have the money at the time, the transit police have the right to fine you $173.00. We the province pay a total of almost 29 million in tax dollars every year just to employ these police on our transit system and I am fine with that, but should they not be doing something a little more important such as chasing real criminals, fining people who are vandalizing our stations, harassing patrons and transit employees alike, assaulting innocent people at the transit stations and in some past cases murder and hate crimes. Lets put a stop to the ridiculous fine for a skipped fare and get this reduced and put transit police where they should be at each and every station.
