DON’T DESTROY THE IRISH LANGUAGE VOLUNTARY SECTOR

The infrastructure which is so vital to providing for the needs of Irish speakers is about to be destroyed.

Foras na Gaeilge is proposing to abolish annual core-funding for Irish language organisations. Instead, they intend to invite applications for three-year schemes in a limited range of activities.

Under Foras na Gaeilge’s proposal, 19 long-standing Irish language organisations will cease to exist, their services will be no more and staff will have to be let go.

The organisations include: Altram, An tÁisaonad, An tOireachtas, Comhaltas Uladh, Comhar na Múinteoirí Gaeilge, Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge, Comhlachas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta, Comhluadar, Conradh na Gaeilge, Cumann na bhFiann, Forbairt Feirste, Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta, Gael Linn, Gaelscoileanna Teo., Glór na nGael, Iontaobhas Ultach, Pobal, Raidió Fáilte, and Raidió na Life

Foras na Gaeilge have not carried out any review of the effectiveness, or the efficiency of the Irish language organisations, and their proposal is completely at odds with international language planning principles.

We believe that the Foras na Gaeilge New Funding Model is deeply flawed, and will prove detrimental to the development of Irish across the country.

We call for a permanent funding structure, based on strategic planning and long-term goals, for the Irish language voluntary sector.

NÁ SCRIOS EARNÁIL DHEONACH NA GAEILGE

Tá an t-infreastruchtúr atá riachtanach chun freastal ar riachtanais lucht labhartha na Gaeilge ar tí bheith scriosta.

Tá Foras na Gaeilge ag beartú deireadh a chur le bunmhaoiniú bliantúil d’eagraíochtaí Gaeilge. Ina áit, táthar chun tairiscintí a iarradh ar scéimeanna trí bliana i réimse teoranta gníomhaíochtaí.

Faoin tSamhail Nua Mhaoinithe atá beartaithe ag Foras na Gaeilge, cuirfear deireadh le 19 n-eagras Gaeilge fadbhunaithe, cuirfear deireadh leis na seirbhísí a chuireann na heagrais ar fáil, agus scaoilfear lena bhfoirne.

I measc na 19 n-eagras seo tá: Altram, An tÁisaonad, An tOireachtas, Comhaltas Uladh, Comhar na Múinteoirí Gaeilge, Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge, Comhlachas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta, Comhluadar, Conradh na Gaeilge, Cumann na bhFiann, Forbairt Feirste, Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta, Gael Linn, Gaelscoileanna Teo., Glór na nGael, Iontaobhas Ultach, Pobal, Raidió Fáilte, agus Raidió na Life

Níl aon taighde déanta ag Foras na Gaeilge ar éifeachtacht nó ar éifeachtúlacht na n-eagras Gaeilge, agus tagann a moltaí go hiomlán i gcoinne bhunphrionsabail na pleanála teanga.

Creidimid go bhfuil an tSamhail Nua Mhaoinithe atá beartaithe ag Foras na Gaeilge lochtach go smior, agus go mbeidh mar thoradh air go ndéanfar dochar aimhleasach d’fhorbairt na Gaeilge ar fud na tíre.

Éilímid struchtúr maoinithe buan, bunaithe ar phleanáil straitéiseach agus spriocanna fadtéarmacha, d’earnáil dheonach na Gaeilge.

Is sinne le meas,
