Petiton to include the services of Professional Homeopaths in benefit coverage and individual health insurance plans sign now

The Homeopathy Act was passed in June of 2007, bringing homeopathy into regulation under Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). As such, it is now recognized and acknowledged as its own distinct and specialized system of medicine.

Homeopathy is already covered by most, if not all, insurance companies, but often only when administered by a Naturopath, which concerns me. It is important to differentiate between the two professions:
The naturopathic curriculum is broad in its scope. Many modalities are introduced in a general way. This includes homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, osteopathy, and massage, among others. Only a general understanding of homeopathy is taught, covering basic philosophies and some of the more common medicines. If they wish to specialize in homeopathy, they would continue studies after graduation at a homeopathic college (reference paragraph one). The same principle applies for the other modalities they are introduced to. For example, a naturopath is taught massage and osteopathic manipulation techniques as part of the curriculum, but cannot use the designation of Registered Massage Therapist, or Osteopath, upon graduation. To do so would require further education at designated colleges, as these are distinct professions under the RHPA.

I am asking that my Homeopath be given the same consideration as other registered professionals regulated under the RHPA.

Homeopathy is an effective, gentle and complex system of medicine that is used worldwide. It is incorporated into the hospitals and health care systems of many countries. It is recognized by the World Health Organization as the second fastest growing system of medicine in the world. It has been proven effective in the treatment of acute and chronic disease, eliminates the need for expensive medications, shortens recovery times, and encourages a healthy lifestyle. Not only are physical conditions relieved, the patient’s mental and emotional states also improve. Stress is reduced, sleep is better, and patients benefit from increased energy and motivation. This translates to better job performance and fewer sick days. Supporting homeopathy is cost effective to employers, insurance companies and the Canadian health care system.

It is my preference as a consumer and policy holder to be treated by the specialist in their field so that I can be confident I am receiving the highest quality of care.
I am requesting that my policy include the services provided by a health care professional with specialized training in Homeopathic Medicine.
